Summer workouts for Wildcat football players
With the summer sport seasons now past, West Central Valley Activities Director and head football coach Jim Lindsay has summer workouts in session for the Wildcat football team. Morning workouts are available to all Wildcat students on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the students have the choice between the 6AM or 7:30AM session. This sessions focus on speed, agility work, and provide access to the weight room. When it comes to preparing the football players, coach Lindsay said, “football wise we’ve been working on improving techniques and adding some wrinkles to our offense and defense at our open fields, as well as playing a little 7v7.”
Jayettes Finish the Year 10-19
Perry softball had their season come to an end on Tuesday. Dallas County foe, DCG, sent the Jayettes home in the Regional Championship. Perry finished the year at 10-19. Ten wins was one better than the previous year when they finished with nine. They started and ended the year well. The Jayettes were 5-7 after the first 12 games. Then, an eight game losing streak happened. The final nine games Perry went 5-4. The Jayettes finished top four in the Heart of Iowa Conference as they went 6-8. The offense was led by Karagyn Whelchel, who hit .454. Pitching relied on Maci Tunink for most of the season. Perry will have to replace 6 seniors for next season. All 6 played in Tuesday’s loss to DCG.
Bluejay Pitchers Key to 11 Win Campaign
The strongest part for Perry baseball this most recent season was the pitching. The Bluejays went 11-18, while 11 guys saw time on the mound. The one-two punch of Owen Myers and Drake Levan was quite successful. Both guys would finish with a record of 5-4. Myers pitched a team high 73 innings, struck out 79, and had an ERA of 1.63. Levan went 49 2/3 innings. The senior fanned 59 with an ERA of 4.65. Kaelan Davis appeared in 11 games while going 0-2. The lefty pitched 27 2/3 innings and picked up 16 K’s. Geren Kenney would pick up the only win that Myers or Levan did not receive. Kenney went 1-1 and appeared in 8 games. Wyitt Belgarde, Ty Brokaw, Reid Iben, Ian Fisher, and Kain Killmer all also saw time on the bump. The first four all appear poised to have larger pitching roles next year, while Killmer will be wrestling at UW-Platteville.

ADM Softball Playing Fort Dodge Next Week to Begin State
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team knows who they will be facing next week to begin the state tournament. The Tigers came out on top versus the Winterset Huskies on Tuesday to be named the Class 4A Region 4 Champions. The first run of the game wasn’t scored until the bottom of the fifth inning from Senior Aleah Johnson, which was followed by a five-run six inning to put some distance between them and Winterset.
