RISING SUN — Rising Sun Little League’s junior baseball All-Stars clinched its second consecutive District 5 title on Tuesday night with a 6-3 victory over Elkton Little League.

“They’re a great ball club,” Rising Sun manager Tim Hartsoe said. “They come out here to play each and every game and this is what happens. Happy with the win, proud of the boys.”

Rising Sun opened the scoring in the second inning on an RBI single by Vincent Ferdinando, followed by two more runs coming via an Elkton defensive error. Rising Sun added to its lead on an RBI groundout by Chase Hartsoe in the third and an RBI double by Christiano Outlaw in the fifth. Johnathan Ward added a sixth run for Rising Sun on an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Elkton attempted a late rally, scoring two in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Joey Graf, followed by an RBI single by Sammy Sniadowski. However, Rising Sun held their ground by getting the outs necessary over the final two frames to seal the victory.

Chase Ewing went the distance on the mound for Rising Sun, holding Elkton to just four total hits and striking out seven over seven innings of work.

“We had all of the confidence in the world in Chase Ewing to pitch that baseball game and that’s what he did,” Tim Hartsoe said. “We made a couple of errors there at the end, but ultimately the guys held strong and came out victorious.”

Rising Sun advances to the state tournament, which will begin on July 6 at Rising Sun Little League.
