Rising Sun Little League wins District 5 11U baseball title

PERRYVILLE — Rising Sun’s 11U baseball team won a District 5 championship on Friday evening. The win puts Rising Sun in the state tournament, which begins July 13 at South Baltimore Little League.

Rising Sun entered the championship game in need of a win on Thursday to force the “if” game. Below is a recap of both championship games.

Game 1 Rising Sun 14, Chesapeake City 13

Rising Sun took an 11-2 lead in the first inning, before Chesapeake City rallied back to take a 13-11 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Rising Sun tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and walked things off in extra innings on an RBI double from Noah Goodwin. Goodwin finished the day with two hits and two RBIs. Gionni Manning and Davis Lehr each drove in three runs, while Brantley Joyce, Dallas Minks, Alex Helm, Ben McDonald and Bryce Brogan each finished with an RBI.

Chesapeake City’s Kade Pierce finished with three RBIs, while Tommy Hetzell ended the night with three hits and two runs driven in.

Game 2 Rising Sun 14, Chesapeake City 3

Rising Sun scored 14 runs across the first three innings of play. Rising Sun’s Peyton Weimer and Davis Lehr each finished the day with three RBIs, while Alex Helm drove in two runs. On the mound, Gionni Manning and Ben McDonald allowed five hits and struck out one batter.

Chesapeake City’s Asher Moszer and Bryce Brown each recorded an RBI.
