    Actor Bill Cobbs dead at 90: reports

    ( KTLA ) – Seasoned character actor Bill Cobbs died on Tuesday in Riverside, California, multiple outlets reported. He had recently turned 90 years old.

    TMZ cited Cobbs’ publicist Chuck I. Jones as the source of the news that the Emmy Award winner had passed. The news was also confirmed by PEOPLE magazine .

    Cobbs’ brother, Thomas Cobbs, told TMZ that pneumonia is the suspected cause of death.

    “As a family we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father,” Thomas Cobbs said. “We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”

    Bill Cobbs was known for films like “Night at the Museum” and appearances in TV shows such as “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “The Sopranos.” Cobb won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Performance in a Daytime Program for “Dino Dana.”

    He also appeared in “Air Bud,” uttering the line “you won’t find anything in [the rulebook] that says a dog can’t play,” which sets up the referee’s classic reply of “ain’t no rule that says a dog can’t play basketball.”
