Washington man accused of assault after being told he couldn’t live at woman’s new apartment
A Washington man allegedly upset after being told he couldn’t live at a woman’s new apartment is accused of assaulting her. The incident occurred at the Tiffin apartment of the victim Wednesday afternoon. According to the arrest report, 26-year-old Barron Cunningham became angry when the woman told him he couldn’t live with her at the new apartment. When she said she was going to call 911, he allegedly grabbed the phone from the victim’s hands and threw it beside the refrigerator where she couldn’t reach it. Cunningham’s actions reportedly caused her pain and left red marks.
Iowa City roommates arrested after reported dispute over convenience store fried chicken
A pair of Iowa City roommates was arrested after a reported dispute with convenience store staff over a lack of fried chicken. Iowa City Police say 23-year-old Cardaeja Jones and 47-year-old Martina Smith…who live together on Cross Park Avenue…were at Kwik Star on Keokuk Street just before 11:45 Thursday night when they became upset that there were no more eight-piece chicken boxes on the hot food rack. The two allegedly began following an employee around the store, despite being told that they had been trespassed and the police had been called.
Iowa City woman accused of stealing donations from restaurant
An Iowa City woman was charged with theft after allegedly stealing a donation box from a restaurant. The incident reportedly occurred Monday afternoon at Taco Loco on Boyrum Street. According to police, 41-year-old Kamisha Terry of the Town and Campus Apartments removed a plastic donation container from the counter and concealed it in a bag. She then allegedly left the restaurant with the container.
Iowa City woman charged with OWI after driving off demolished bridge
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - On June 29th, 2024, a 45-year-old woman was arrested after driving into a construction zone and driving off a bridge. Investigators say Rosalia Chavez Amaya drove a 2015 Ford Explorer into a clearly marked construction zone and around equipment and signs and then off a demolished bridge. Chavez Amaya allegedly had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol when officials arrived on the scene. Responders conducted a field sobriety test and she blew a 0.120% BAC.
Cedar Rapids women charged after alleged Iowa City burglary
Two Cedar Rapids women were taken into custody Sunday afternoon after allegedly attempting to burglarize a residence. The incident reportedly took place on 500th Street SE, north of Hills. According to the arrest report, 51—year-old Josephine Mello and 70-year-old Wendy Wilkinson-Senneff entered the unoccupied structure after gaining access through a chained-off fence gate inside the property and then securing the gate behind them.
State of Iowa settles UI Cambus accident suit
The State of Iowa and a woman injured when a University of Iowa Cambus slid on an icy road and hit her vehicle in 2018 have agreed to settle a suit ahead of trial. The Gazette reports that 48-year-old Yoland Parker sued for a million dollars for injuries to her knee, neck and back, and to recover damages for past and future medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. She originally sued the driver as well as the state, but dropped the driver from the suit later.
University Of Iowa Settles Harassment Complaint With Professor
(Iowa City, IA) -- A University of Iowa professor has agreed to resign after an investigation into harassment complaints against him. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the University, Attorney General's Office, and Board of Regents are entering a settlement agreement with Thorsten Rudroff that will see him resign rather than be fired.
Chicagoland man facing decades in prison after attempting to rack up thousands in charges on stolen credit card
A man from the Chicago suburbs has been arrested five months after he made several attempts to use stolen credit cards at Coral Ridge Mall. According to arrest reports, a suspect went into the University of Iowa Health Care Clinic on North Dodge Street and stole a wallet from an office not open to the public on February 1st. He and another suspect, identified as 20-year-old Antonio Tallie of Park Forest, then reportedly used the cards at Target and Best Buy. They tried to use one card at Target for $1271.99 but the card was declined. The other suspect tried to use three different cards at Best Buy for a total of over $2860, but they were all declined.
