Welcome to Ultimate Homes, a new Robb Report video series in which host Anthony Park guides you through the most striking and luxurious homes on the prime market today. Whether it’s a three-story condo in a New York high-rise or a sprawling oceanside estate on the cliffs of Malibu, we’ll show you every room—and amenity—inside the world’s most coveted addresses.
Very rarely are New York City apartments teeming with outdoor space. This stunning Soho penthouse, however, has no shortage of attractive features, chief among them a rooftop terrace larger than the average American home.
Spanning two floors in a commercial building converted into a boutique condominium with only six units, the penthouse at this Wooster Street condo lacks nothing when it comes to stylish comfort and relaxed luxury. The loft-style residence measures in at 4,856 square feet with four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, plus one half bath. Topping it all off is a sprawling 3,000-square-foot roof terrace with views over West Broadway, an outdoor kitchen, a pergola, and a bocce court. Think of it as your own private oasis in the heart of the Big Apple come spring and summer.
Light pours though original casement windows into the loft’s capacious living area.
The eye-catching digs are entered via an extra-wide foyer that leads to the striking great room, which is decked out with period details like soaring 15-foot coffered ceilings, original casement windows, a huge wall of white-painted brick, and a marble glass fireplace.
The main living area is filled with natural light and flows right into the open kitchen and dining area with plenty of space for entertaining guests. Here, you’ll find a curved, built-in dining banquette, in addition to bar seating at the kitchen’s L-shaped island. The chef’s kitchen is equipped with an Officine Gullo range imported from Italy and top-of-the-line appliances from Miele. Both spaces are peppered with blue and gold accents, including a tiled backsplash and brass fixtures. The penthouse also sports a refrigerated wine vault, a gym that doubles as a library, and a gallery that’s alive with art.
The private roof terrace spans more than 3,000 square feet.
The primary suite is a showstopper with a whopping four closets, including a walk-in wardrobe with custom shelving. The suite is complete with a marble-clad bathroom with a distinct and glamorous Art Deco feel to it. It features a rain shower, a separate soaking tub, a towel heater, and a state-of-the-art automated Toto toilet.
Back in the great room, a black steel floating staircase makes a striking, minimalist ascent to a penthouse lounge with wraparound glass walls that connect it to the surrounding roof terrace.
The open kitchen sports an imported Italian range and a built-in dining banquette.
The Soho penthouse stands four stories above the street and was built in 1929. It originated as a parking garage and later housed a cardboard manufacturer before it was converted into a residential building in 2004. Extra storage is available, and there is full-time doorman service. It’s no surprise, then, that the home has since gone into contract for its original asking.
