Christopher Rasmussen, Marc Akerlind, Jason Greenberg, Kyle Bille and David Dirkers have filed to run in a special election for an open spot on the Robbinsdale City Council in Ward 2.

Robbinsdale residents in Ward 2, which represents northeastern Robbinsdale, can vote on Tuesday, May 14 in the special primary.

The spot is open because former Robbinsdale Council Member Sheila Webb stepped down last October.

After the primary, the special election will be Tuesday, Aug. 13. The winner will serve through January of 2025.

Also on Tuesday, Aug. 13, there could be a general primary for the mayor, Ward 1 council member and Ward 2 council member. The primary will only be held if more than two candidates file.

The League of Women Voters will hold a Ward 2 special election candidate forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 at City Hall, 4100 Lakeview Ave N., Robbinsdale.

For more information about the elections and to see a map of Robbinsdale’s four wards, go to the city website at robbinsdalemn.com/city-government/elections.

The Sun Post will print a Ward 2 special election voter’s guide in the April 18 edition.

The deadline for Ward 2 special election-related letters is Thursday, April 25 for the May 2 edition.
