A speeding motorcyclist died last week at a Robbinsdale intersection.

On June 7, a Crystal police officer observed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 42nd Avenue North near Winnetka Avenue. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the motorcycle fled from the officer at a high rate of speed eastbound. After less than two minutes, the officer lost sight of the motorcycle and discontinued the pursuit.

Officers attempted to locate the motorcycle and were not able to. Approximately two minutes later, Hennepin County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a single motorcycle crash near the intersection of 42nd Avenue North and West Broadway in Robbinsdale. Officers arrived at the scene of the crash and located the motorcycle and an adult male nearby suffering from obvious trauma connected to the crash.

“The Robbinsdale Police Department will be working with the Minnesota State Patrol to investigate this crash,” said Robbinsdale Police Captain John Elder, “We closed the intersection of 42nd Avenue North and West Broadway for approximately 20 minutes on Friday afternoon so the State Patrol could map the scene for its reconstruction of the crash.”

Officers attempted lifesaving measures until North Memorial paramedics arrived and determined the male was deceased. According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, the male was 21-year-old Lucas Zander Weyenberg who suffered from blunt force craniocerebral injuries due to the crash.
