ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — New leadership took office in the Rochester City School District Monday, as Demario Strickland officially stepped into the interim superintendent position.

Strickland previously served as deputy superintendent of teaching and learning in the district.

Several months ago, Carmine Peluso announced he’d be leaving RCSD to become the superintendent at Churchville-Chili. The district appointed Strickland at a board meeting in June, where he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

“I’ve been here a little less than 3 years, but I’ve forged some great quality relationships that continuously just make me want to do even more for this city,” he said. “I love it, I love this work and I’m just glad that the board of education has the faith that I can keep the work going.”

According to his contract on the district’s website , his role is effective until June 30 2025, or until the appointment of a permanent superintendent, whichever occurs first.
