MCSO: Knife recovered, suspect flees from Walmart robbery

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery at the Sweden Walmart after the suspect fled.

Deputies told News 8 they responded to the store around 12:40 p.m. Sunday to investigate reports of two people fighting.

When deputies arrived, they were able to determine a robbery occurred where a man left the store with a large amount of meat he did not pay for. A citizen was who witnessed the theft approached the suspect in the parking lot.

Deputies say the suspect then displayed a sharp object and the citizen then displayed his legally registered handgun.

A knife was recovered at the scene, and the suspect fled in a vehicle resulting in a chase. The chase ended due to dangerous conditions.

The case is still under investigation, and MCSO is working to determine the identity of the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call 911 or email MCSOtips@monroecounty.gov.
