DAVENPORT, Iowa — Update 9:15 p.m.: A MidAmerican spokesperson said two callers reported a lightning strike at a pole near 28th and State in Bettendorf. That outage is affecting around 970 customers since 7:42 p.m. Crews are actively making repairs but the energy company did not have an estimated time of restoration.

Traffic alert: 3 road projects to begin in Davenport this week
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Lots of work will start this week between Marquette Street and Division Street and 15th Street to Central Park. According to Davenport’s website, the first project affects the intersections of Marquette Street and West Central Park, and Division Street and West Central Park. Southbound Marquette will be closed at Central Park starting Wednesday. Utility work, intersection reconstruction, and a new traffic signal will be installed at Marquette and West Central Park. Both are estimated to be completed by mid-to-late August.

Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge Announces Reminders About 4th of July
The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge issued a few reminders ahead of Independance Day. Boaters are asked to avoid flooded boat ramps and to be aware that there may be possible closures at boat landings. Fireworks are not allowed on the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge due to their disturbance to wildlife and the litter they leave behind. The Refuge includes most islands and beaches on the Mississippi River from Wabasha, Minnesota to Rock Island, Illinois. If you are not sure if you will be within the refuge, please check refuge maps. Federal law enforcement officers will be patrolling the Refuge looking for fireworks as well as glass bottles, which are also banned on Refuge beaches. Officers also want to remind people of the importance of wearing their personal floatation devices (PFDs) while on the water.

New Mexican restaurant coming to Geneseo
Habaneros Mexican Grill and Cantina in Moline will open a new location in the Oakwood Avenue strip mall in Geneseo. The expected opening date is in October. Josue Sanchez, member/manager of Cruz Enterprises, which owns Habaneros, has been operating his restaurant in Moline at the Southpark Mall since 2015. He identified a location to expand his business to Geneseo, leased the space, and started the build-out for the new restaurant.
