City of Rockdale hosting Sesquicentennial Celebration

ROCKDALE, Texas ( FOX 44 ) – The City of Rockdale is 150 years old, and will be celebrating this milestone for twelve straight days!

The city says everyone is invited to partake in the festivities, which will celebrate Rockdale’s past and future during its Sesquicentennial Celebration. A city-wide affair like this hasn’t been seen since Rockdale’s 1974 Centennial!

Event organizers say several dedicated groups and non-profits have worked to plan events and activities providing fun for the whole family. There will be something for everyone – a drone show, food, music, art, family activities, historical presentations, vendor events and more!

Some key events include the Rockdale 150 Drone Light and Fireworks Show on July 4. This will take place at Fair Park, located at 200 Walnut Street, and is free to attend.

The Rockdale 150 Parade will be taking place at 10 a.m. on July 6. The Downtown Highway 79 Route will go from Green Street to Fair Park.

The Rockdale 150 Birthday Party Gala Dinner & Dance featuring Kenny Orts will take place from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. on July 13. This event will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 7014 US Highway 79. The Gala is known to sell out, so get your tickets soon!

The Rockdale Sesquicentennial Time Capsule Committee also accepted items to be placed in the new time capsule to be buried at Veteran’s Park. This time capsule will not be opened for 50 years.
