ROCKTON — Hononegah senior Emily Auestad has terrorized defenses across Rockford for the past two seasons as a member of the girls volleyball team that saw much success in the NIC-10.

Auestad will continue to deliver booming strikes in Rockford after she formally announced her intention to play at Division III Rockford University with a signing ceremony on the campus of Hononegah High School on Monday.

A team captain and two-time NIC-10 scholar athlete, Auestad finished with 49 kills her senior season while adding 36 digs to her well-rounded abilities on the court.

The outside hitter was a part of the Special Olympics Club at the high school and intends to continue to work with those with intellectual disabilities as she plans to major in special education.

With a mostly new lineup, the Indians went 27-11 overall and 16-2 in the NIC-10 to finish second. Hononegah won a IHSA 4A regional title with a 2-1 win over Hampshire before falling in two sets to Libertyville in the sectional semifinals.

The Regents play in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and finished 7-16 overall and 2-11 in conference play last season.
