ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Curran’s Orchard says its cherry season has come to a premature end after the crop suffered catastrophic hail damage.

The orchard said it lost the vast majority of its tart cherry crop as a result.

“It did catastrophic damage to these cherries. They’re done. They all been hit. They’re all bad,” said Pat Curran. “So and there’s literally, I guess there maybe $1,000 or several hundred for sure, because we’ve got a lot of trees that looked like this down there throughout the orchard”

Curran’s said there are still hundreds of pounds of cherries on the trees but they cannot be sold in their current condition.

The orchard is looking forward to fall after they said damage to apple crops was minimal.

Curran’s is open Fridays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the end of July.

NOTE: A prior version of this article incorrectly stated that Curran’s Orchard had closed for the season.
