ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Four dogs and three cats were rescued from a fire in a two-family duplex Tuesday morning.

No residents were injured in the blaze, which started in a garage in the 1100 block of S. 6th Street around 7:35 a.m., according to Rockford Fire District Chief Slade Berry.

According to officials, a resident noticed smoke coming from the garage when they went to let one of the dogs out this morning.

Authorities said the fire did not extend into the living areas of the home.

The Red Cross is assisting the occupants, and the fire department estimated the damages around $60,000 for the structure and contents.
