Man is accused of driving on wrong side of the road while fleeing police

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Rocky Musialek, 40, for allegedly fleeing from police on the wrong side of the road.

On July 4th, around 11:29 a.m., police were shooting radar at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Cunningham Street when a maroon Dodge van sped past, according to court documents.

Officials said they activated their lights after catching up to the van as it turned South onto Garver Avenue from West State Street. The vehicle sped away reaching over 60 mph in a 30 mph zone while driving on the opposite side of the road, according to court records.

Authorities ended the pursuit due to the reckless driving, but bystanders told deputies the van was parked behind a garage in the 600 block of Memorial Avenue. Police found Musialek walking Westbound in the area and detained him.

Musialek admitted to officials he was driving the van and that he tossed a black Adidas bag that had drugs in it somewhere nearby.

A K9 aided authorities in finding the black Adidas bag which contained cocaine and a broken glass smoking pipe, according to court documents.

Musialek is being charged with fleeing to elude an officer, aggravated fleeing police going 21 mph over, driving 15-20 mph above the limit, improper traffic lane usage, operating an electronic communications device while driving, driving on a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of meth.
