    Shooting investigation leads to arrest of four Rockford teens

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police, investigating a shooting Wednesday night, arrested four teens who had guns and what police described as an “AK-47-style pistol.”

    Officers with the department’s Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) team were following up on a reckless discharge incident earlier in the evening when, around 9:15 p.m., they located the suspect vehicle in the area of Harrison and Stowmarket.

    Police said inside the vehicle, they found two loaded guns, the aforementioned automatic pistol, ammunition, and a spent shell casing.

    Javius Catlin, 18, was arrested and charged with Reckless Conduct.

    Nazir Haywood, 18, was charged with Reckless Discharge, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and No Firearm Owners Identification.

    Kevontae Jones, 18, was charged with Reckless Discharge, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and No Firearm Owners Identification.

    A 17-year-old teen was charged with Reckless Discharge, Obstructing Identification, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No Firearm Owners Identification, and a Probation Violation.

    All four were transferred to detention facilities, awaiting the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
