ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The American Red Cross provided “clean up kits” to Rockford residents in an effort to help with recovery efforts from last weekend’s storms.

The kits, which included a bucket, gloves, cleaning supplies, and garbage bags, were handed out at Forest City Church, 1280 S Alpine Road, on Friday morning.

The Salvation Army was on hand to provide meals to those in need, and the church provided volunteers to help distribute the goods.

Red Cross executive director Trish Burnett said a clean-up of a significant size takes a community effort.

“When you’ve had something like this happen, you need people that will be your ally and friend and help. Salvation Army, the Red Cross, the church, we’ve all worked together, and we can just feel the gratitude from people. People are so kind when you help them. And we just would encourage, if you know somebody that needs help, see if you can help them, or make sure they get a referral to call us,” Burnett said.
