ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The City of Rockford is asking residents to provide feedback on traffic safety, as part of a process to obtain Federal assistance to reduce roadway fatalities and injuries.

Data gathered from the survey, funded by the US Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program, will be used to develop a plan of action to reduce deaths and serious injuries caused by speeding, and impaired, distracted, or aggressive drivers.

Once the survey data has been compiled, the action plan can be submitted to USDOT to apply for an SS4A grant .

According to the grant website, “The selection criteria for a Planning and Demonstration Grant are primarily based on three quantitative ratings: 1) number of roadway fatalities from 2017-2021; 2) the fatality rate (per 100,000 population); and 3) percent of the jurisdiction’s population that resides in an Underserved Community Census tract. These ratings will be compared against other applicants to determine funding recipients.”

The multi-question survey asks residents their opinion on issues such as traffic law enforcement, speeding, distracted driving, pedestrian, bicyclist, and motorcycle safety.
