MINNEAPOLIS — An announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this week is creating its own form of fireworks for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. On Tuesday, the FDA announced its long-awaited approval of the Eli Lilly drug, donanemab. Trials have shown the drug – which will be sold under the brand name Kisunla – slowed the progression of Alzheimer’s disease by 35% by attacking what’s considered a hallmark of the disease: protein in the brain called amyloid plaque.
Motorcyclist dead after rear-ending vehicle in Chanhassen
CHANHASSEN, Minn. — A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with an SUV Wednesday night in Chanhassen . The Minnesota State Patrol website said the incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. on westbound Highway 5 at the intersection with Great Plains Blvd. Video from MnDOT's camera system shows the driver of a Nissan Rouge pulling away from a stoplight in the right lane when the rider, a 33-year-old Bloomington man, closes from behind the SUV at a high rate of speed and hits the slow-moving vehicle.

Waconia approves Goodwill store despite local thrift shop concerns
Waconia City Council members on June 17 approved plans for a new Goodwill store despite objections from representatives of local non-profit thrift shops. The 20,867 square-foot Goodwill facility is planned for 860 Marketplace Drive in the city’s highway business district, near Valvoline and Mackenthun’s Fine Foods. The new store follows the same blueprint as other Goodwill locations across the state, including those in Chanhassen and Chaska.

MINNEAPOLIS — After a half-decade hiatus, the music, crowds and excitement are back in 2024 in Mill Ruins Park for the grand return of Red, White and Boom.As if on cue, the skies cleared for the very beginning of festivities Thursday evening, after a wet and gloomy rain-soaked day."This is our first Red, White and Boom," said Roth Khea, a crew member with Waffle Bar Food Truck, one of the food trucks at the event.Khea has kept a close eye on conditions all day."I think it's going to be a great event because the rain is clearing out for us," said Khea.So too have organizers from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Close call between dump truck and motorcyclist caught on camera
MINNEAPOLIS — Dash camera video shows an incredibly close call between a motorcycle, SUV and dump truck on a Minneapolis interstate.The Minnesota State Patrol says a motorcyclist crashed into a guard rail while traveling southbound on Interstate 35W at Hennepin Avenue on Monday.After the motorcycle crashed, a Kia SUV swerved to avoid the crash and got rear-ended by a dump truck. The dump truck ended up spinning out, narrowly missing the motorcycle and its operator.The motorcyclist suffered injuries that were non considered life-threatening. No one else reported any injuries.The crash remains under investigation.
