ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School Raider Track and Field Team continues building momentum ahead of the postseason after medaling in multiple events last Thursday.

With the postseason just around the corner, the Raiders may have hit their collective strides at just the right time.

Tyrene McKenzie may be one of those athletes peaking at just the right time after medaling in multiple events. He took first in the triple jump by more than 3 feet from second-place teammate Dominic Tillman, who took third in the 110 hurdles and finished the day with a 37.02 jump in the triple. McKenzie later showed his versatility in the long jump with a 20.02-foot leap for second place.

In running events, Keonta Pegues took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.66 seconds, followed by teammate Jynell Scott, who took third in 11.23 seconds. Amer Morrison took second in the 400 with a time of 53.33 – less than a 10 th of a second off of the leader, followed by Nyjier Allen’s third-place finish in 53.6 seconds. Jayden Hamilton took third in the 200 and James Coicou took third in the 1600.

The Raiders nearly swept the relay portion of the competition with the 4x100 team taking second in 44.75 seconds, but the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 taking first in 1:31, 3:39 and 9:38 respectively.

In throwing events, Laurence Williams thought he had the discus sewed up after uncocking a personal record 103.10-foot throw, but teammate Jordan Hamilton surpassed him with a monster 105.02 throw for second place – moving Williams to third.
