OBITUARY: Hector Luis Barbosa

Hector Luis Barbosa, 79, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024 at Reid Heart Center, Pinehurst, surrounded by his family.

He was born May 22, 1945, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, son of the late Biviano Barbosa and Carmen Pastrana Barbosa.

Hector’s passion and work was in construction. He also loved to do yard work. Hector was a member of East Rockingham Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Bailey Barbosa; his children, Jobel Barbosa (Sherry) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Rosa Byrd (Joshua) of Aberdeen, Jamylette Bennett (James) of Rockingham, Jannett Lamourt (Brett Locklear) of Rockingham, Hector Barbosa Jr. of Puerto Rico, Robert Barbosa of Miami, Florida, Mayra Barbosa (Yuri) of Miami, Florida, and Tina Leopard (Chris) of Bennettsville, South Carolina; grandchildren, MacKenzie Elvis, Christian Tyler, Cynthia Garcia, Camryn Freeman, Jillian Bennett, Ileana Lamourt, and 17 more grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jesus Barbosa; and sisters, Helen Figueroa (Luis), Ana Martinez (Pedro) and Rosa Barbosa-Rodriguez.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 5 p.m. at East Rockingham Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

At other times, friends are welcome to visit at the family home.
