Get on the mark and signed up now for an upcoming race to help raise money for a local law enforcement program helping bring outreach efforts to youth in the classroom.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Wire2Wire Running on Saturday morning, August 3 for the first ever C.H.A.M.P.S. Dash 5K on the Silver Comet Trail in Rockmart.

Signups are $30 per runner, but proceeds from the event are going directly to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office C.H.A.M.P.S. program, per Major Rachel Haddix, who is helping organize the race early next month.

She added that even walkers and strollers are welcome to participate in the event as well.

The race course will take participants – whether runners or walkers – eastbound from downtown Rockmart’s Silver Comet Trailhead at Seaborn Jones Park out to the Van Wert Trailhead and back for race day refreshments and to honor the winners of the 5K in several categories.

A 9 a.m. start time is meant to help ensure that racers don’t overheat, and most of the trek out and back again on the Silver Comet Trail is shaded. It is a rain or shine event.

The PCSO C.H.A.M.P.S. program the race is set to benefit as a fundraiser is a drug and safety education program taught by certified deputies in the seven elementary schools across Polk County.

Signups are available ahead of the start of the 5K on race day, but prices per participant will increase. Swag bags and t-shirts might not be available on race day for participants who sign up last minute.
