ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH) — A man is dead after being ejected from his car on Interstate 91 in Rocky Hill early Saturday morning, according to state police.

Just before 3 a.m., troopers arrived at exit 24 on the northbound side of I-91 on reports of a two-vehicle crash. According to the police investigation, 44-year-old Marcos Benitez Rengifo, of Portland, was driving a 2008 Nissan Versa when he veered into the right shoulder and collided with a metal beam guardrail.

The impact caused Benitez Rengifo to be ejected from the Versa, according to police, and the car came to an uncontrolled stop in the right center lane. Police said she died at the scene.

Moments later, a 2018 Acura TLX driven by a 30-year-old man was traveling northbound on I-91 in the right lane when he collided with Benitez Rengifo’s disabled car. The Acura came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder. State police said that the driver declined medical attention at the scene.

Both cars had to be towed away from the scene after suffering disabling damages.

According to the Department of Transportation, I-91 was closed between exits 23 and 24. But the highway has since reopened.

State police continue to investigate this deadly crash. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Trooper Dean at 860-534-1098 or email him at micheal.dean@ct.gov .
