Rocky Mount man arrested for assaulting his mother with a cane
A Morgan County man is arrested for severely assaulting his mother in Miller County. Rakan Penfield, of Rocky Mount, was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. His bond was set at $200,000 and he’s to be fitted with a GPS tracking device to ensure he stays away from his mother.

Missing Springfield man found dead in Camden County
A man who was recently reported as missing was found dead near a golf course on July 24. Brent L. Johnson, 58, of Springfield, was reported missing by his family on Monday morning. Camden County Deputies responded to Old Kinderhook Golf Course near the Lake of the Ozarks to investigate.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a woman who allegedly crashed a car while under the influence of alcohol, leading to serious injuries for a Morgan County woman. Charges were filed Friday against Melissa Alston, of Knob Noster. She’s been charged with driving while intoxicated resulting in serious physical injury, second-degree assault, failure to drive on the right half of the road, and failing to maintain financial responsibility of her motor vehicle. The arrest warrant was issued this morning.

Missouri woman serving life sentence for murder freed from prison
A Missouri woman who served 43 years in prison on a murder conviction has been freed after her attorney had established evidence of “actual innocence.” 64-year-old Sandra Hemme was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center this week after her sentence was overturned in June by a judge who threatened to hold Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s office in contempt if they continued to try to stop the ruling. Hemme had been serving a life sentence after she was twice convicted of the murder of Patricia Jeschke in 1980. Due to her long incarceration, she is not eligible for social security.
