    SPORTS ROUNDUP: FCS netters earn second straight win

    Faith Christian School’s girls tennis team improved to 2-2 with its second straight win on Friday, a shutout over Wake Christian at home.

    The Patriots dropped just 12 games in the nine matches.

    In singles, No. 1 Molly Morningstar blanked Lea Morgan 8-0; No. 2 Avery Clark won 8-1 over Sidney Frazier; No. 3 Afton Joyner defeated Clara Caruso 8-1; No. 4 Savannah Denton shut out Lily Tan 8-0; No. 5 Addison Rich eased past Liana Miller 8-2 and No. 6 Page Strickland got past Stella Sydow 8-1.

    In doubles, FCS’s No. 1 duo of Molly Morningstar and Clark defeated Morgan and Frazier 8-1; the No. 2 pairing of Joyner and Strickland held off Caruso and Courtney Kirkland 8-5 and the No. 3 team of Rich and Nora Morningstar defeated Miller and Payton Adams 8-1.

    RMA 6, Kerr-Vance 0Rocky Mount Academy’s tennis team improved to 3-1 by shutting out Kerr-Vance Academy 6-0 on Friday.

    The Eagles won four singles matches: No. 1 Abbie Hooks 8-0 over Hailey Elligton; No. 2 Frances Tharin 8-0; No. 3 Mary Powell Chestnut 8-0 over Ashley Medlin and No. 4 Isabella Daza 8-0 over Emma Ellis.

    In doubles, the No. 1 team of Sarah Dunn Sawyer and Elizabeth Paszek defeated Elligton and Ali Grace Ellis 8-1 and the No. 2 duo of Grace Bone and Britt Gaynor won 8-0 over Medlin and Emma Ellis.

    VOLLEYBALLRMA 3, STMA 2After dropping the first two sets, Rocky Mount Academy’s volleyball team rallied for a 14-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-11, 17-15 triumph over St. Thomas More Academy on Friday.

    McKenna Rogers had 17 kills and 13 digs for RMA. Hannah Garris added 16 digs and eight service aces, while Landry Miller provided 15 assists and Berkeley Miller had eight kills and three blocks.

    SOCCERRM drops twoThe Rocky Mount High School boys soccer team fell to 0-5 overall after an 8-1 loss to Union Pines on Friday and a 12-0 defeat to Seaforth on Saturday at the Middle Creek School Park and WakeMed Soccer Park, respectively.

    Samuel Osorio notched the Gryphons’ first goal of the season in the match against Union Pines on an assist from Guliany Fernandez-Pineda. Keondre Ramsey and Alanazo Fenton added four and three steals, respectively.

    Fernandez-Pineda, Sawyer Williams and Ian Guerrero each had two steals in the loss to Seaforth.

    FCS 3, Thales 3Faith Christian emerged the winner 4-2 in a shootout after each team finished with three goals in regulation on Friday in a nonconference match in Rolesville.

    Tanner Belk scored two goals for the Patriots (1-1) while Emory Bridges added a goal and an assist.
