Two teens arrested for armed carjacking following police chase
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two teens — 13 years old and 14 years old — were arrested for an armed carjacking after leading Charlotte-Meck police on a chase. On July 16, shortly before 9 p.m., CMPD Metro Division officers responded to an armed carjacking incident in the 300 block of South Summit Avenue. The victim advised that his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint by two suspects.
Greenway tunnel creates pathway under I-77 for walkers, bikers
HUNTERSVILLE– A long-awaited piece of greenway is finally open, creating a walkable connection between the east and west sides of Huntersville under Interstate 77. The tunnel is part of Mecklenburg County’s Torrence Creek Greenway/Tributary 2, also known as Torrence Trib. II, which is an east-west connection in The Vine, Huntersville’s greenway system. Work on the greenway section broke ground in the spring of 2023, and the subterranean passage beneath the interstate became walkable last month. The town held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the connector on Monday, July 15.

CMS will standardize pay for extra duties. Some say it’s too little
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools leaders say they’re promoting equity with a new schedule that standardizes what teachers get paid for taking on such extra duties as band, dance, drama, yearbook and academic clubs. The new stipend schedule, which does not cover athletics, ranges from $200 for teachers who advise student clubs to $2,000 for high-school band, orchestra and theater.
