ROGERS, Ark. ( KNWA/KFTA ) — Do you feel like you could be anemic? Well, two Arkansas resources are teaming up to help give you an answer!

Mercy Hospital and the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks are offering residents across Northwest Arkansas a free anemia blood screening on Tuesday, July 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the glass atrium area of the hospital cafeteria at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas.

Attendees will get a quick finger stick test to check their hemoglobin levels. People with healthy hemoglobin levels can help with the Arkansas blood supply.

“Knowing your hemoglobin level is important for your health, and this event serves two key purposes,” said Amy Gaines, laboratory director at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas. “It helps individuals learn if they have anemia and need further care, and it encourages those with healthy hemoglobin levels to donate blood. Since CBCO is our sole blood supplier, maintaining a strong blood supply is critical to Mercy’s ability to care for patients in need of blood transfusions.”

Mercy will help guide individuals who are found to be anemic during the screening.

Anemia, often caused by low iron, affects about 3 million people in the U.S. Symptoms include feeling tired, weak or dizzy, having shortness of breath, headaches or an irregular heartbeat. Anemia can also indicate serious health issues.
