Douglas County Sheriff calls Roseburg’s 32-hour work week “reckless”
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. – “I believe this is a reckless policy change on behalf of the City of Roseburg.” That’s the message from Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin in a statement he released Friday expressing his concerns with a 32-hour work week. A policy he says was recently adopted by the City of Roseburg in regards to a 3-year union contract for the city’s police department.
Medford man drowns while on vacation near Gold Beach
CURRY COUNTY, Ore. – A Medford man is dead after drowning in the Rogue River approximately nine miles east of Gold Beach on July 14. According to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, just after 1:30 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a drowning at the Lobster Creek gravel bar area.

The Douglas Forest Protective Association has an update on the fire situation:. On Tuesday at approximately 5:00 p.m. a lightning storm trekked across Oregon, bringing over 1,000 recorded strikes. Of those, an estimated 130 strikes made air-to-ground contact in the Douglas District. DFPA activated reconnaissance and has been in initial attack since.
