Oregon farmer says she can't afford to pay workers overtime, now that it's required
ALBANY, Ore. — In 2022, the Oregon Legislature passed a landmark bill requiring overtime pay for farm workers. It gave employers a gradual ramp-up, so they won't be paying overtime after a 40-hour week until 2027. But since the beginning of last year, farms have needed to pay time and a half when workers exceed 55 hours.

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association are dealing with fires that began as a result of lightning storms that swept across the district late Tuesday. *Middle Fork Fire: Located about 6.5 miles northeast of Glendale. It is estimated to be 1/10th of an acre. The fire continues to be in patrol status.
Riddle native Drake George selected by Giants in 13th round of MLB Draft
Riddle High School graduate Drake George was selected 388th overall in the 13th round by the San Francisco Giants on the final day of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday. George spent the past three seasons at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. The junior led the Warriors with 13 starts last spring and finished the season with a 6-2 record. George, who went by Drake Borschowa while at Riddle High School, had a 4.91 ERA with 74 strikeouts and 21 walks in 66 innings. He was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference co-Pitcher of the Year.

Homeowner affected by Central Point structure fire speaks out
CENTRAL POINT, Ore.- The residential structure fire burning in Central Point Tuesday afternoon has been contained and mopped up. Jackson County Fire District 3 was alerted to a fast-moving grass fire in the 4200 Block of Grant Road in Central Point at the same time as a microburst thunderstorm. According to Fire Chief Mike Hussey, the fire ignited in the field and then quickly spread to what he believes was a mobile home and greenhouses. He says the fire grew to around 15 acres because of the wind.

Man escapes Oregon prison, found 30 years later in Georgia with stolen identity
Authorities have captured Steven Craig Johnson, who escaped from an Oregon state prison nearly 30 years ago and assumed the identity of a deceased child. Johnson, 70, was arrested at an apartment complex in Macon, Georgia, on Tuesday by the US Marshals Service and its fugitive task forces. He had been living under the name William Cox since 2011.
