Wednesday, June 26: Thunderous change in the pattern, how long will it last?

Finally, a change in the pattern has arrived. A cold front pushed through creating early morning storms that left behind some minor tree and roof damage. Additionally, many spots also picked up a good 0.50″ to 1.00″ of rainfall.

After the rain pushed out, we were left with calm skies and much cooler weather. Highs today range from the upper 80s in the southwest to the upper 70s around Rolla. However you slice it, today has been a drastic improvement on the otherwise searing week.

Tomorrow will be warmer than today, but still not too bad. I like our chances to dodge 90 degrees for the second day in a row.

Heat and humidity start to build back on Friday. Enjoy the cooldown while it lasts as low to mid 90s return to end the work week. Heat index values may exceed the triple digits for both Friday and Saturday.

This weekend we’ll have multiple waves of wet weather. The first is scheduled to arrive overnight Friday into Saturday morning. The heaviest rain totals will be north of I-44. The boundary will stall across southern Missouri on Saturday before reigniting and pushing south again Saturday night into Sunday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms, however, are still possible during the daytime Saturday into Sunday. Some storms could become strong to severe during this time, but the overall risk is low.

Temperatures will be in the 80s on Sunday. The cooldown won’t be for long as we can highs in the upper 90s are possible for Tuesday.
