Kelsea Ballerini will continue her busy 2024 this fall with a new album titled Patterns . The album’s second single “Sorry Mom” — which follows the Noah Kahan collaboration “ Cowboys Cry Too ” — arrives Friday, with the LP to follow on Oct. 25.

“I think that people probably expect this really happy-go-lucky, love, mushy, gushy record from me. That’s not the case,” Ballerini told The Associated Press of the upcoming album. “And I’m really proud of that. It would have been easy to, I think, just collect the really beautiful parts of my life that I’ve dusted off and found the last couple of years. But that’s not the fullness of my experience.”

As for “Sorry Mom,” Ballerini called the single “an intimate song.” “The first line is, ‘Sorry, mom, I smelled like cigarettes.’ You know, it’s the things that your mom doesn’t really want to hear,” she said. “But then you get to the chorus and the meat of it and the heart of it, and it’s a letter of thanks to my mom for raising me the way she did.”

Patterns , Ballerini’s first full-length album since 2022’s Subject to Change , follows her 2023 EP R olling Up the Welcome Mat , which despite its slight runtime — it only clocked in at 16 minutes — still earned a Best Country Album nomination at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

In addition to all the music, Ballerini has been making her presence felt on television, first as the host of the 2024 CMT Music Awards and next as one of the coaches on the upcoming 26th season of The Voice .
