Post Malone doesn’t have to look far to find a reminder of his daughter: Her initials, “D.D.P.,” are tattooed on his forehead. The sweet tribute is just one example of how fatherhood has impacted Malone. During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the musician opened up about the ways in which his 2-year-old daughter, whose full name he hasn’t made public, has impacted his life and career.

“I’ve written a whole lot of songs [about her],” he said while promoting his upcoming country album, F-1 Trillion . He sings about his daughter’s future wedding day in “Yours,” with the lines “and she might be wearin’ white/but her first dress, it was pink.”

Fatherhood, he said, “changes your life in the best way ever. And the most beautiful thing is, she has a beautiful mom.” In fact, the singer went as far as to credit both his daughter and her mother with saving his life. “Four years ago, I was on a rough path,” he said. “It was terrible.”

Malone said at the time, he was struggling with a period of loneliness: “Getting up, having a good cry, drinking, and then going living your life, and then whenever you go lay down, drinking some more and having a good cry.”

Now that he’s made it to the other side, Malone acknowledged that he needed the life lesson to better understand who he was, “I don’t feel like that anymore, and it’s the most amazing thing.”

Malone, who Rolling Stone once described as having a gift for “turning dreamy darkness into Top 40 gold,” is taking on a new genre. In the CBS Sunday Morning interview, Malone talked about filming the music video for “Guy For That” which features country singer Luke Combs. He also previously collaborated with country star Morgan Wallen for chart-topping track “I Had Some Help” and country icon Blake Shelton with “Pour Me a Drink.” The country songs are all featured in his upcoming album F-1 Trillion , which is set to release Friday. The album also features country superstars like Chris Stapleton , Dolly Parton , and Brad Paisley.
