Residents “tired” of old dump sites on property
Out in Payneville, KY, a few hundred feet off Rhodelia Road, sits an abandoned tire dump that has filled a gulch and is now covered with overgrowth and trees. As it was explained to me, back in the 1970’s and 80’s, and maybe even well prior to that, it was very common in rural settings to find a sinkhole or ditch to bury large items such as tractor tires, appliances, and other sorts of items, more as a matter of convenience. While some illegal dump sites are still occurring throughout the county, this particular one seemed to stop being used 20 to 30 years ago. That does not negate the fact that there are hundreds upon hundreds of old tires sitting in this Payneville ditch.
