‘Whatever you need, we’re here to help:’ officials working to clean up Rome’s damages

ROME, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Gov. Hochul arrived in Rome this morning to give locals hope for the rest of their summer.

“Whatever you need, we’re here to help. We’re not abandoning you,” said the governor.

Extreme damage has been left in the area following — what has now been confirmed by the National Weather Service as — a tornado. There are destroyed homes, many without power, and ruin throughout downtown.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente said the governor called within minutes of the disaster, offering resources.

Local officials have been working together to help calm some of the chaos and continue to clean up and begin assessing damage.

Picente and the governor call it a team effort.

City Hall is open for essential businesses. Temporary work and offices will be established at Griffith’s Airport until something more permanent can be established.

As of now, there are no serious injuries from the disaster.
