Tompkins County Emergency service center got a record number of calls Monday
The Tompkins County Emergency Communications Center had what it believes to be the highest volume of calls in a single day on Monday, July 15, due to severe storms. The center said in a Thursday statement that the vast majority of calls received by the center from the afternoon through the late evening on July 15 were for trees and wires down, as a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area, producing heavy rain and high winds.

Onondaga County will dump raw sewage into Ley Creek for days to fix leaking line
Syracuse, N.Y. -- Onondaga County will discharge raw sewage into Bear Trap and Ley creeks for up to a week as it repairs a leaking high-pressure sewer line. Work on what’s called the Ley Creek force main pipe will begin Monday. The 42-inch-diameter pipe has been leaking since June 6 where it crosses Onondaga Creek, just a few hundred feet from where the creek empties into Onondaga Lake. The line runs alongside the CSX Railroad bridge over the creek.

(WNY News Now) – Syracuse, NY – A brutal homicide in Syracuse has left the community in shock as details of the investigation unfold. On July 15, 2024, at approximately 7:22 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to 103 Riverdale Dr., Apt. 1, for a status check. Upon arrival, they discovered Kevin Works, born March 6, 1962, suffering from apparent injuries inflicted by a cutting instrument. Despite immediate medical attention from AMR paramedics, Works was pronounced dead at the scene.

Syracuse Common Council to vote on $390K settlement in Armory Square police brutality case
The Syracuse Common Council is expected to vote Monday on a $390,000 settlement split between two people who accused Syracuse police officers of beating them in Armory Square. The settlement will end a five-year court battle between Kyle Williams, Rachel Chrysler and the city. Williams and Chrysler sued the officers for using excessive force. Under the settlement, Williams would receive $325,000 and Chrysler would receive $65,000.
