Akron city officials hold public safety press conference in wake of deadly mass shooting
AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Akron city officials held a press conference Tuesday to discuss public safety nearly two months following last month’s fatal mass shooting. Officials discussed guidance in hosting safe public gatherings, lateral hires for the Akron Police Department and an update on the city’s gun violence response fund.
Solon, Cleveland Metroparks trail eyes ‘26 completion date
The city of Solon in partnership with Cleveland Metroparks is working to develop a new trail starting from SOM Center Road and traveling through Solon and Chagrin Falls. Construction on the trail, 2 miles of which sits in Solon, has started and should be completed in 2026, Sean McDermott, chief planning and design officer at Cleveland Metroparks, told the Cleveland Jewish News.

Akron looking to streamline snow and ice operations
DOWNTOWN AKRON — The City of Akron is hoping some new technology will streamline and modernize snow and ice operations in the city. During the Public Service Committee meeting July 22, Akron City Council members heard from Service Director Chris Ludle about purchasing road sensors to install throughout the city from Vaisala and S3 Technologies LLC for $214,000. The new technology will allow for those at the Public Works Command Center to make real-time, localized observations of weather and road conditions across the city during snow and ice events.

City to unveil utility box artwork in August
BARBERTON — The City of Barberton is close to unveiling selected artwork to be wrapped on 18 utility boxes throughout the city. Since June 21, the city’s Utility Box Art Committee has reviewed 92 submitted pieces from artists of all ages. Vanessa Johnson, administrative coordinator to Mayor William Judge, said the committee will next meet Aug. 8, where representatives from the city’s vendor, Pro Auto Wraps, will explain the process of placing the wraps on the boxes, the estimated lifespan of a wrap and other details.
