Letter to the editor: Debaters should answer questions without delay
The real problem I had with the Trump/Biden debate was the person not answering the question until the last 30 seconds. That's when the questioner had to repeat the question. I feel you should make a rule having the question answered immediately. If a person cannot follow the rules of the debate, then the comments made that are not relevant to the question should be deleted/muted.

The long-awaited time capsule opening took place July 6. Inside the time capsule were, among other things, old newspapers, an old book from the Garrettsville 120th Centennial and a song written about Garrettsville called “Old Garrettsville” that was sung by two girls, according to the James A. Garfield Historical Society, when the time capsule was buried in 1924. Two women sang the song at the time capsule opening.

Fred E. Fouts, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Fred was born Sunday, February 14, 1937 to the late Charles and Clarice (Hutchins) Fouts and lived in the Doylestown area most of his life. He very much enjoyed his retirement after working as a tool maker and in construction. Fred was a faithful Christian throughout his life. He loved his family, golfing, and traveling.
Columbiana County, Canfield fairs remain timeless treasures
There’s no glitz, glamour or full-scale high-tech wizardry used to awe which seems to be needed — or felt is needed — in this day and age of providing entertainment. No fancy 21st century version whistles, horns or gimmicks are involved. No, the summer fairs in our area like the 179th Columbiana County Fair, which officially opens Monday, and the upcoming Canfield Fair, which opens August 28 for its 178th year over 353 sprawling acres, are two examples of what is right with our area.
Martha J. Miller
Martha J. Miller, 88, of Kent, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Tamarack Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Kent on August 12, 1935 to the late Clifford and Madeline Meloy and was a 1953 graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School. Martha was employed as a secretary for several years, including ten years at Kent State University. She enjoyed camping and crafts, especially knitting and embroidery. She was a member of Trinty Lutheran Church and Club ’53. Martha will be deeply missed and never forgotten by those who knew and loved her.
