James W. Campbell
James W. Campbell, 85, of Minerva, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024. He was born Nov. 8, 1938, in Mapleton to Wendell and Ann (Siofletia) Campbell. He retired from PCC where he had worked for over 40 years. He is a longtime member of the Little Country Church in Waynesburg. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1957 and is a U.S. Army Veteran.

In memory of Denise Carson, founder of the organization, he continues to honor her legacy with his heartfelt contributions. This year's event will be held on Friday.

RAVENNA, Ohio — The Shalersville Historical Society will meet Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. for its monthly meeting at its museum, located at 9154 State Route 44 in Shalersville. The group will showcase progress on its one-room school house and discuss upcoming events, including an Aug. 13 program at 7 p.m. on the North Feeder of the Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal, which ran from Feeder Dam near the Save 4 store in Shalersville.

CANFIELD, Ohio (AP) — CANFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Farmers National Banc Corp. (FMNB) on Wednesday reported net income of $11.8 million in its second quarter. The Canfield, Ohio-based bank said it had earnings of 31 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 33 cents per share.
Hot Stove tournament brings heat in Alliance
Four Alliance-area teams played Saturday in the semifinal games of the Ohio Hot Stove Baseball League at Butler Rodman Park in the Carnation City. Rick Black Photography, which competed in the E League for ages 17 and 18, was the only team to advance to Sunday's competition, which included the state title games. Rick Black Photography defeated Alliance American Legion 166, 14-7, to earn its spot in Sunday's games. Other teams that competed were Sebring West Branch Goshen Ruritans, which lost Saturday morning to Elyria Dawgz, 15-7, in a G League game; and Alliance Big Red's Fishing, which lost Saturday to Grafton Midview Milano Monuments, 17-10, in an HH League game. Construction begins on Solon Community Park upgrades
In an effort to update Solon Community Park, construction has begun on phase one of a larger plan – the renovations of Cisar Field and playground, and a community garden. “The park was in much need of a facelift,” Richard Parker, director of recreation, told Cleveland Jewish News, said of all the new additions.
Carnation Festival flower show moves to new location
Two popular Greater Alliance Carnation Festival events have new locations for the 2024 event. The Flower Show and Community Luncheon both have relocated. The Community Luncheon, set for 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3, will be at Alliance Area Senior Center this year. It normally is held in a cafeteria in Hoover-Price Campus Center at University of Mount Union. Road construction this summer has forced the move.
