Rockton and Roscoe have friendly competition through art

ROSCOE, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockton and Roscoe residents came together to compete to see who could paint the best rock snake.

Brittany Geng said building the rock snake was an exciting experience. Geng was the organizer of Rockton Rocks where community members used to paint and hide rocks around town.

Now she, the Roscoe Garden Club and the rest of the area are making rock snakes.

“So originally we were going to make one rock snake and it was with the Roscoe Gardening Group,” said Geng. “So we were going to make one rock snake. I went in at the, you know, the Village Town Hall of Rockton, and asked if we could put it there and they said, yes, well, Roscoe was like, ‘Well, wait a minute, we want a snake too.’ So originally there was just going to be two rock snakes, and then it became a competition.”

Geng said everyone can get involved and the best part is whenever she sees the snake updated.

“It’s really a great opportunity for people to, like, showcase what they’re passionate about, too, which I really, really like,” said Geng. “If you check out The Rock, which I’m sure you will, you’ll see that there’s a lot you can just tell, like people’s personalities by their acts and what they’re really into and it’s fun.”

“Everybody was really excited about the competitive part of it as well,” Geng went on to say.

Other communities around the country have started the rock snake trend, you can even find Rocky the Snake at the Talcott Library. If you wanna see Roscoe the Snake you have to go to the Roscoe Community Center.
