ROSELLE PARK, NJ — The Borough of Roselle Park has announced that there was a sanitary sewer collapse at the intersection of East Grant Avenue last Wednesday. Consequently, traffic west of Galloping Hill Road was shut down while crews began emergency repairs.

While the road surface was stable, the roadway still required extensive excavation.

"Upon identifying the road defect last week, the borough televised the underground sewer infrastructure in and around the area," commented Borough Administrator Andrew Casais. "A blockage was discovered which appeared to be structural in nature. It was at this point the decision was made to open the roadway on an emergency basis and further identify the impediment.

Upon excavating the street, a sunken and abandoned deep sewer stack was found to be the rot of the problem, which crews were able to promptly remedy and restore the area. "Luckily, none of the homes along the East Grant Avenue corridor were tied to the impacted sanitary sewer main," Mr. Casais continued. "The delayed roadway improvement project is expected to resume within the next week or two."
