Pedestrian Fatality on Bissonnet Street Leads to DWI Charge for Houston Driver
Yesterday evening, just before 10 p.m., a pedestrian was struck and killed on Bissonnet Street in Houston, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances that led to his untimely demise. According to the City of Houston's official news release, the incident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. near 7400 Bissonnet Street. The name of the deceased male has not yet been released pending identification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Toll Road Deputies arrest Houston man for unlawfully carrying a weapon
HOUSTON, Texas — A 23-year-old man was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon during a traffic stop on the South Sam Houston Parkway East. On July 25, 2024, deputies from Harris County Constable Precinct 2, under the leadership of Constable Jerry Garcia, observed a vehicle with expired registration while patrolling the South Sam Houston Parkway East. The deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 8500 block of the parkway, according to the constable's office.

Why communities of color are less likely to seek out mental health services
Organizers of the Melanin Minds Mental Health Conference in Houston point to several reasons. According to Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration data from 2020, only 37 percent of Black American adults have received mental health care services of any kind. A 2021 survey found only 36 percent of Latino or Hispanic adults had sought out such services. That compared to 51 percent of White Americans. And the FDA cites 2018 data suggesting Asian Americans were 60 percent less likely then to receive mental health treatment than White Americans.
