5 People Arrested After Amherst Police Standoff Leaving One Man Dead
Law enforcement officials engaged in a standoff with a man who opened fire at officers in Amherst. The incident has resulted in an investigation into the man’s death. Jeffrey Miller, the suspect who allegedly shot at police officers in Baraboo on Tuesday night, died in the standoff. He was 32 years old.

State officials are now in charge of a death investigation, after a nearly 24-hour standoff in Amherst that ended when police found the suspect’s body in an attic. The situation unfolded on July 25 when police from the Portage County Sheriff’s Department, Marathon County Sheriff’s Department and Stevens Point/Plover tactical teams served a warrant at a home in the 400 block of Mill Avenue in the village of Amherst and an arrest warrant for 32-year-old Jeffery E. Miller.
One of Three Suspects in Stevens Point Beating Death Will go to Trial Next Month
STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — One of the three Wausau-area men suspected of beating a Stevens Point man, who died from his injuries, has been scheduled for a late-August trial. Court records show Arlin Sangster has been scheduled for a five-day trial between August 26th and 30th for one count of reckless homicide and a misdemeanor count for theft of movable property.
