Clay Center Man Involved in Single Fixed Wing Aircraft Accident on July 4th
A Clay Center man was involved in a single fixed wing aircraft accident at Wamego Airport on July 4th. According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a single fixed wing aircraft was traveling northbound on runway 36 at the Wamego Airport and was attempting to perform a short field takeoff. Miscommunication occurred between the student pilot, 22-year-old Mason Jay Patrick Camera of Manhattan, and the instructor, 65-year-old David Allen Thompson, causing the aircraft to continue northbound on the ground. Brakes were applied in an attempt to stop; however, the aircraft continued past the runway, entered the grass, and came to a rest in a corn field.
