    1. Black women’s health disparities under scrutiny in American Cancer Society’s landmark study

⚕️ With Black women continuing to face the highest mortality rates than other races from most cancers, the American Cancer Society has launched the largest national study of its kind to gain an understanding of what’s behind this reality.

While better detection and new medication have helped contribute to a decline in cancer deaths in the United States following a 1991 peak, Black women have the highest death rate for most cancers.

Through the VOICES of Black Women study, the American Cancer Society plans to recruit at least 100,000 Black women from 20 states and the District of Columbia in order to follow them for 30 years. The areas of focus, the organization finds, are where 90% of U.S. Black women between the ages of 25 and 55 reside.

    3. Artificial intelligence to affect broad range of public services

⚖️ Georgia lawmakers may or may not develop legislation this summer and fall to establish state standards for regulating emerging artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

But one certainty that became clear from the inaugural hearing of a state Senate study committee late last month is that AI will dramatically affect a wide range of government policy areas, from economic development to health care, education, public safety and transportation.

“It’s going to impact and change things like never before,” said Sen. John Albers, R-Roswell, chairman of the Senate Study Committee on Artificial Development.
