A Cumming, GA woman who allegedly sold fentanyl-laced pills to a Sandy Springs woman has been charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter.

Makyla Peacock was found unconscious inside a Sandy Springs residence on June 6. EMS efforts failed to save her life, according to a Sandy Springs Police Department news release.

Sandy Springs Police Criminal Investigations Division (CID) detectives took over the investigation. A toxicology report from the Fulton County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Peacock died from a fentanyl overdose.

CID detectives alleged that Peacock bought the pills from Mallery James of Cumming. Arrest warrants were obtained for James and detectives took her into custody, the release said.

James had a preliminary hearing before a judge on Aug. 15, who ordered her release from the Fulton County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The jail reports that James was released on that bond on Aug. 19.
