    Incoming Debby postpones first day of school for 2 local districts

    ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — The first day of school for Rowan-Salisbury Schools and Stanly County Schools has been canceled, officials announced on Wednesday.

    Kids were supposed to go back on Thursday, Aug. 8, but due to the incoming weather from Tropical Storm Debby, that will not happen, officials said. Thursday is now an optional workday for staff in Rowan-Salisbury Schools.

    RSS will make its decision for Friday, Aug. 9 by 3 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Stanly County will not have school on Thursday AND Friday, pushing its first day to Monday, Aug. 12.

    “We appreciate the collaboration with local weather experts and emergency outlets in making this decision for our students & staff,” Rowan-Salisbury School System said.
