The Jeff Choate era for Nevada football has officially begun, and it almost began with the biggest upset in program history. A 27.5-point underdog at kickoff, Nevada led SMU, 24-13, on Saturday with the ball in field-goal range early in the fourth quarter with a chance to go up two touchdowns. And then things fell apart in a 29-24 loss. Nevada had never won a game before in which it was bigger than a 17-point underdog, so a victory would have been historic.
