Nine Jayhawks Begin Olympic Journey in Paris
PARIS – Nine with Kansas Jayhawks ties will be competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics, which get underway this Friday with the opening ceremony. The Jayhawks will be represented across multiple sports with Michael Joseph, Yoveinny Mota, Sharon Lokedi, Bryce Hoppel, Hussain Al Hizam and Alexandra Emilianov all joining Head Coach Stanley Redwine and Event Manager Tim Weaver on the track and field side, while Joel Embiid will be competing on Team USA for men’s basketball.
Rodeo fan; Abilene man is long-time rodeo volunteer
For the past four decades, Sid Hammond has been a committee member with the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo in Abilene. It was in 1985 that he began his affiliation with the rodeo. The rodeo had been produced by the fair board, but it was failing. That year, fair board member Joyce Romberger came to Hammond and another saddle club member, Bruce Kogler, asking for their help in rejuvenating it.
