Troy John Hansen, 44, Royalton, was charged in Morrison County District Court with one felony count of assault.

The charge stems from a June 10 incident, when an officer of the Royalton Police Department received a report of a domestic dispute occurring at a residence on West Centre Street located in Royalton. The officer was advised that a male and female were outside involved in a dispute, according to the report.

The officer arrived at the scene and observed a male subject walking around with no shirt on. The male subject was identified as Hansen. Per the report, a female victim was initially crying and unable to provide the officer with much information.

According to the report, the victim was eventually able to provide the officer with a statement. The victim stated that Hansen picked her up from a shelter in St. Cloud and brought her back to the residence in Royalton. The victim stated that Hansen kept her in a back bedroom of the residence and would not allow her to have access to her phone. The victim stated that Hansen had been beating her for the last few days causing bruising to the victim’s arms. The officer observed multiple bruises on the victim’s arm. The victim stated that she was sore and had pain all over her body.

Hansen was placed under arrest and transported to the Morrison County jail. Per the report, Hansen denied assaulting the victim. Hansen claimed that the victim simply bruises easily.

The officer later spoke with the reporting party, who had called 911. She stated that she observed the victim trying to leave the residence, but Hansen was blocking her from leaving. She described Hansen’s demeanor as very aggressive. The reporting party said she tried calling law enforcement to report what was happening and later saw the victim on the ground. She believed that Hansen pushed the victim to the ground. The reporting party stated the victim appeared very distraught and that Hansen was being very aggressive toward her, according to the report.

An examination of Hansen’s criminal history shows multiple prior convictions for crimes of violence, including prior convictions for felony assault in July 2023 and March 2019. The prior convictions enhance the current offense.

If convicted on the felony charge, Hansen faces up to five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine.
